Enrichment Classes Begin This Week

Thank you for registering your child(ren) in the Enrichment Classes Winter Session! We have over 140 students enrolled!

Please be sure to sign up for your 60 minutes of volunteer time.

The following classes are cancelled due to low enrollment:

      • Cryptography
      • Photography

The following classes have been merged:

      • Introduction to Improvisation (Grades 3-6) has been merged into Introduction to Improvisation (K-6) and will meet on Tuesdays
      • Art Enrichment: Unique Techniques (Grades 3-6) has been merged into Art Enrichment: Unique Techniques (K-6) and will meet on Wednesdays

Sign Up for Winter Enrichment Classes

Registration for the Enrichment Program is now open for everyone. Log into Pay4SchoolStuff (or create a new account) and register your child(ren) for some great classes. Enrichment programs fill up quickly so don’t delay!

The success of our Enrichment Program relies on your support–select your volunteer dates now.

Registration closes January 25 and classes begin January 30.

Early Bird Gets the Class!

Early Bird registration for Enrichment programs is open!

As a benefit of joining the PTA, members have early access to register their child(ren) for enrichment classes at a reduced price. On January 9, online registration will be available to all SVES families at an additional price of $10 per class. Register online at



Thank you to everyone who donated their Halloween candy to Stang Family Orthodontics buy-back program last month. Sunrise Valley Elementary School came in second place, with a whopping 86 POUNDS of candy, and received $100 toward our PTA! Thank you to Stang Family Orthodontics for your generous donation!

Our Before School Enrichment Program is in search of a “Volunteer Wrangler” for the morning volunteers. This is the perfect task for someone who can’t physically help at school, but is willing to contact parents about the open spots on our SignUpGenius.

Let’s Thank Our Teachers, November 17

We are so thankful for our amazing SVES teachers and staff! Let’s kick off this season of Thanksgiving with a luncheon to show them how appreciative we are for all they do. On Thursday, November 17, the PTA will provide lunch for the staff. We ask for your help to provide salads, desserts, and drinks to round out this festive occasion.

Call for Homecoming Parade Coordinator

SVES needs a parent (or two) to make sure Sunrise Valley is represented in the South Lakes High School Homecoming parade this Friday, October 28. The coordinator(s) will organize students, teachers, and parents at the beginning of the parade route (Hunters Woods Village Center) and follow it through to the end (South Lakes High School). The Annual Fall Hoe Down is October 21!

Dress in your favorite country western wear and bring the whole family to Sunrise Valley PTA’s Annual Fall Hoe Down on October 21 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm!

Admission tickets are $6/person or $20/family which includes line dancing, dessert buffet, games, and tons of fun! Activity tickets are $1 for face-painting, raffles, photo booth, and arts & crafts.

Tickets available at the door; use the main entrance of the school.

Questions About the Meals Tax? Join Us at the Next PTA Meeting!

Due to SVES parents’ interest, we have scheduled Tony Shivers to discuss the upcoming referendum on the Meals Tax for Fairfax County. Tony Shivers is the Fairfax Co Council of PTAs Volunteer VP of Advocacy and will give an overview of the topic and answer questions. This is a great opportunity to learn more about an issue that could directly affect our schools.

Backpack Program Needs Your Help!

We are ALWAYS in need of and appreciate your support – food or financial – but with the long weekend coming, please consider helping out this week!

Each bag costs about $9 and we now support 18 friends, which means $162 each weekend. We need double and triple the amount of money and food during long weekends and school breaks.

We need the following single-serve items:

  • milk
  • protein / tuna
  • applesauce / fruit cups / veggie cups
  • granola bars / healthy snacks
  • mac & cheese / Chef Boyardee pasta
  • Ramen noodles
